Importing Devices via Device Description Files

You can add devices to your project by importing device description files. PLCnext Engineer supports the import of the following file types:

GSDML (Generic Station Description Markup Language) files for Profinet devices.
FDCML (Field Device Configuration Markup Language) files for field devices.
IODD (IODD Device Description) files for IO-Link devices (see also the topic "Importing IODD Files" for further details).

Devices which you have imported via device description files are added to the 'Local' folder under the 'Network' category in the COMPONENTS area.

Proceed as follows:

From the 'File > Import' menu, select the 'Import...' command for the desired file type.
In the appearing browse dialog, select the device descriptions to be imported and click 'Open'.
