Safety-Related Area: Logon to/Logoff from

Also observe the general information on the Safety-related Area.

How to log on to the Safety-related Area

After having once defined the Safety-related Area password as described above, the following applies:

  • You can log on by left-clicking the

area in the status bar. The 'Project Authentication' mask appears.

  • If you are not logged on to the Safety-related Area, the authentication mask opens automatically when executing a command in PLCnext Engineer which requires to be logged on. This may be, for example, the insertion of a safety-related device into the PLANT, or opening a safety-related POU in the editors area.
  • In the authentication mask, enter your password and press <Enter> to log on.

If you cancel the mask by clicking the icon, the Safety-related area is not accessed. You do not have write access but read-only access to safety-related data. For example, safety-related code or variables worksheets or parameter grids can be displayed in read-only mode without logging on.

While you are logged on to the Safety-related Area, this is indicated on the left side of the status bar:

You stay logged on until you log off or you are automatically logged off due to inactivity (see below).

How to log off from the Safety-related Area

To log off from the Safety-related Area simply left-click on the 'Logged In' status bar field (see figure above). The Safety-related Area is exited immediately. Open safety-related editors are switched to read-only mode.

While you are logged off from the Safety-related Area, the following is shown on the left side of the status bar:

Automatic logoff due to inactivity

If no user activity is detected within the specified access timeout period, you are automatically logged off from the Safety-related Area. In this case, you have to logon again as described above.

By default, the 'Password Timeout' value is set to 10 minutes in the 'Options' dialog. To modify the value, select 'Extras > Options', and click 'Settings' in the 'Safety' category to open and edit the authentication settings.

The automatic logoff also happens for the connection to the Safety PLC. After the set time of inactivity has elapsed you must reenter the Safety PLC password in order to have access to the Safety PLC.
