Defining the I/O update task for the Profinet I/O Controller and Devices
The interval at which variables are updated from the running controller can be configured by selecting update tasks. Depending on the controller used, different settings concerning update tasks may be possible.
For PLCnext Technology controller types, the following applies:
In the 'Settings' editor of the 'Profinet' PLANT node, you can define the task (cyclic or idle) with which- the system variables (PNIO_* ) and assigned global input/output variables of the Profinet I/O controller are updated,
- the system variables (PND_S?_*) of the Profinet I/O devices are updated (that is, when the global input/output variables connected to the process data items are read/written).

To select the task used for the update of the Profinet controller and the I/Os proceed as follows:
- Double-click the 'Profinet' node in the PLANT and then open the 'Settings' editor in the editors area.
- In the 'Settings' editor, select the 'Update tasks' category on the left.
- One drop-down list is available for the variables of the I/O controller and one for the I/O devices.
Select the desired task for each type. The drop-down list provides all cyclic and idle tasks that are defined in the 'Tasks and Events' editor.
